Hungry Coyote
Minnesota Historical Society Press, May 1, 2015.
Winner of the 2015 Moonbeam Award for picture books and honorable mention in the 2015 Riverby Awards.
Suitable for children ages 3-7 as well as anyone who loves nature, lyrical prose and gorgeous art.
"Masterfully illustrated ..." "Extensive alliteration and the repetition of phrase patterns characterize a text that reads like poetry ..." "A beautiful tribute to a much-maligned animal with which we share our world." - Kirkus starred review.
Coyotes thrive in many major American cities including, Chicago, Boston, New York, Los Angeles and Minneapolis. When I saw one crossing a frozen lake near my city home I wondered what he ate, where he slept, how he avoided people. That started me thinking about coyotes living in the city. What do they eat? How do they avoid people? What are their lives like? And so began the research that culminated in this book.
